The objective of "Strategy and Foresight" is to ensure an optimal positioning of Nano2Life in the worldwide competition by bringing external and technico-economic inputs to scientists. The convergence of nanotechnology and biology is expected to produce breakthroughs, new applications and products, and significant enhancement of existing applications or products: Roadmaps will describe long term objectives and milestones for NBT applications and priority topics for research. A strategic plan is shaped to identify research areas which have to be tackled by Nano2Life in the future and to achieve the contribution of potential industrial partners fitting to the aims and the philosophy of N2L. Further perspectives of this collective action plan concern the allocation of grants and resources as well as the preparation of the European Institute of Nanobiotechnology. Strategic and forward-look work is a collective process that contributes to integration. The major intention is to bring people together, to provide methods and tools to work efficiently as well as to produce results and to share visions. Real strategic thinking is encouraged, not prevented in Nano2Life. Research requires dreams and ambitious goals to go far beyond well known achievements. Nano2Life intends to complete optimistic scientific visions by a careful analysis of end-users demands, industrial expectations and limitations in a long term perspective (more than 10 years.).
