CBM

Research Network CBM is a public-private consortium which carries out research and advanced training in the field of molecular biomedicine. It provides services promoting the diffusion of innovation, transfer of technology, and support in the launch of new entrepreneurial initiatives.

CBM is also the appointed body which coordinates the activities of Technology Cluster in Molecular Biomedicine; the entity formally established on October 5th 2004, through an agreement between the Ministry of Education, University and Research and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region.

Located in Trieste within the AREA Science Park, and with laboratories in the main regional scientific centres, CBM acts as a bridge between research and industry by making available laboratories and instrumentation for shared use and connecting a wide network of research institutions, enterprises, governmental bodies, development agencies and financial partners, which support the creation of added value to the region.

Research Network

The laboratories at CBM are equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation, available for shared use and open to institutions, enterprises, interdisciplinary research groups, internal or external to CBM. Highly qualified staff are present within each laboratory and available for scientific collaboration or service agreements.

Observatory on Biotechnologies for Health

This facility has been devised as a strategic service when evaluating and planning R&D investment. The Observatory is aimed at monitoring demand and analysing the market's absorption capacity for emerging biotechnologies in health. The Observatory monitors current data from the Global Burden of Disease Study, Comparative Risk Assessment and other reliable sources of demographic and epidemiological information (trends, geographical distribution, risk factors). It collects the best available information on health technology assessment; it analyses the evolution of health systems and their financing, as well as trends in the drug and biotechnology markets. On the basis of this information, the Observatory provides a forecast of the health, environmental and economic impact on the population anticipated by the introduction of a new technology for the control of certain diseases and within a given geographical context.

Knowledge Network

As part of its mission, CBM runs professional training programmes for advanced research and transfer of technology, promoting international researcher mobility and contact between research and industry. In cooperation with AREA and its partners, CBM organizes scholarships, Phd programmes, company training schemes, seminar cycles and international Summer Schools.
